Amery Ellsworth Charlson, the son of Irving and Oliva (Morem) Charlson, was born October 15, 1917 in Forest City, Iowa. He passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015, at North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa, at the age of 97.

He received his education in the Forest City schools.

On his birthday, October 15, 1947, Amery was united in marriage to Vivian Maxine Westerberg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Fertile. In 1948, they moved to Forest City and he was employed in hardware stores as an electrician and later City of Forest City at the Forest City Power Plant as a lineman. Then they moved to Swea City, Iowa and purchased the former Tweeten Hardware Store in 1957. In 1969, they sold the store. He went to work as Head Custodian for the Swea City schools. Then Amery was employed at Great Plains Lumber Company for seven years until his retirement. After his retirement he continued doing electrical and carpentry work and enjoyed delivering RV's for Winnebago Industries. In their leisure time the couple enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. One of their great pleasures was enjoying a cabin they built in 1966, on Tuttle Lake near Dolliver, Iowa. They also enjoyed wintering some in Texas, Florida and California. Amery also enjoyed woodworking and had a loom for weaving rugs and placemats. They moved to the Forest Plaza Assisted Living in Forest City, Iowa in October 2012 where they have enjoyed reacquainting themselves with Forest City relatives, friends and meeting new ones.

Amery was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lions and Commercial Clubs and Senior Center in Swea City.

Left to cherish Amery's memory are his wife, Vivian of Forest City; his children, Andy Charlson and his wife, Cindy of New Bremen, OH; Nancy Lenhart and her husband Vaughn of Eden Prairie, MN; Mark Charlson and his wife, Lucretia of Plainfield, IL; grandchildren, Melissa Torres; Erica Deren; Neal Charlson; Drew Charlson; Molly Lenhart; William Lenhart; great grandchildren, Joshua Torres; Alexis Torres; Julian Deren; Emilee Deren. siblings; sister Mavis Berhow and her husband Marvin of Dakota City, IA, three sister and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Amery has been preceded in death by his parents; Irving and Oliva(Morem) Charlson: sister Irene Holland; brother, Willard Charlson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church Roof Fund; Swea City Senior Center or Forest Plaza Assisted Living.
