Visitation services for Donald Johnson will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard with Pastor Samuel Belz officiating. Burial will be at the Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 21. Henry-Olson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Donald Carl Johnson, the son of Rinerd and Dora (Pelleymounter) Johnson was born November 30, 1936, near Lakota, Iowa. Don passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, Minnesota, at the age of 80.
He received his education in Lakota Schools, graduating in 1955. Don served in the United States Army from 1955-1958 in Germany.
On October 25, 1959, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Schwartz in Ledyard. After their marriage, the couple farmed and Don sold Crow's Seed Corn for many years. Don and Evelyn sold furniture and operated Johnson's Country Classics for several years.
He was a very active member of Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church, serving as deacon, church choir, singing for weddings and funerals. He also was a member of Farmers Coop Elevator Board. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, was an avid sports fan, loving his St. Louis Cardinals/Minnesota Twins and Hawkeye’s. But his true passion was spending time with his family.
Left to cherish Don's memory is his wife, Evelyn of Blue Earth; children, Randall (Deb) Johnson of Swea City; Vincent (Julie) Johnson of Swea City; Laura (Wade) Barslou of Blue Earth; six grandchildren, Nadel (Tom), Quinn (Heather), Lindsy (Roby), Lacey (Matt), Dallas and Samantha; five great-grandchildren; brother, Joe (Elaine) Johnson of Swea City; sister-in-law, Betty (James) Smith; brother-in-law, Fred (Rose) Schwartz and also by many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Don in death are his parents; sister, Mary Jean Arndorfer; brothers, Rinerd "Sam" Johnson and Paul Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, family prefers memorials to Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard.
