Wayne B. West the son of Arthur and Gladys (Juhl) West was born January 17, 1927 in Estherville, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville at the age of 89.

He attended Gruver Country School and graduated from Gruver High School where he graduated salutatorian in 1944. To help support the family farm Wayne worked at Kinnards Dairy until entering the military in 1945. Wayne served in the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed in Italy and was honorably discharged in 1947.

On January 8, 1955, Wayne was united in marriage to Annette Ziemer at St. John's Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Following their marriage, the couple made their home at the Century Farm east of Estherville. In 1995, they received an award for the oldest continually owned family farm in region 1. Besides farming, Wayne would work various odd jobs to help support his family. Wayne also served as Emmet County Supervisor for 16 years. He enjoyed coffee and cards, reading and keeping up with current events and often times an afternoon beverage with his family and friends. Wayne was mindful of those in need and a friend to young and old. After 51 years of marriage, Annette died in 2006.

Wayne was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3388 and American Legion 91. Wayne was very passionate about his involvement in civic and community affairs serving on various boards throughout the years.

Left to cherish Wayne's memory are his children, Tami West Lobato and her husband, Ted of Armstrong; Theresa West-Clemens and her husband, Randy of Wallingford; Treva West of Ringsted; Todd West; Ted West; Tricia West all of Estherville; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by brother and sister, Virgil West and his wife, Viola of Wallingford, Iowa; Joyce "Sally" Alger and her husband, Gary of Arizona; and sister-in-law, Anita West of Arizona.

He has been preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Floyd McDonough; wife, Annette; four sons, Tim, Tom, Terry and Tony; and brother, Larry.

Memorials may be donated to Special Olympics Emmet County in memory of Wayne.
