David John Richardson was born August 7, 1953, the son of John and Phyllis (Busch) Richardson of Ledyard, IA.  David grew up on a farm near Ledyard.  He attended school at Grant Township and Swea City, graduating in 1971.  Following graduation, he along with his two brothers attended Dakota Wesleyan College in Mitchell, SD, playing football.

David began farming with his father and his brother Jerry following college.  He was married to Lynda Larsen in 1974.  They owned the Gay Paree Dance Hall on South Silver Lake.  They later divorced.  An accident on Memorial Day, 1980, severely injured David.  He had spent the last 44 years in a wheelchair.

David’s love was his pontoon and fishing.  He spent many family vacations at a resort on Long Lake, MN.  He enjoyed time spent up north fishing with his brother Jim’s family in the summer.  David spent winters at his home in Mesa, AZ, with his brother Terry.  Summers were spent at his parents’ home and later with his brother Jerry and Roxanne.

David entered Valley Vue Nursing Home in Armstrong in 2019, where he passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the age of 70.

David is survived by his brothers Jim (Sherry) Richardson of Lester Prairie, MN, Terry Richardson of Clinton, MO, and Jerry (Roxanne) Richardson of Ledyard; and his sister, Vickie (Jerry) Wagener of Chandler, AZ.  He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews; and 13 great-nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Lisa and Gene Guinn of Fairmont, MN.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents; his parents, John and Phyllis Richardson; his niece, Chelsea Wegener; and her great-niece, Shyanne Richardson.

A private family interment will be held Thursday, June 27th, at Highland Home Cemetery in Ledyard.  A public Celebration of Life for David will begin at 4 PM on Thursday, June 27th at LaRows Grill in Swea City.
