A funeral service for Marjorie Person, 94, of Algona formerly of Lone Rock, was held Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church. The funeral was live streamed on the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church Facebook page. Burial was in the Burt Township Cemetery.

Marjorie Alice Person, the daughter of Earl and Bertha (Davis) Eichhorn, was born on May 25, 1929, on a farm near Elmore, Minnesota. She attended country school and graduated from Elmore High School in 1947. She attended Iowa State Teachers College that summer and then taught country school for two years.

On June 12, 1949, she married Arthur “Art” Person and they started their life together working on the family farm between Burt and Lone Rock. They retired in 1990, and moved to a home in Lone Rock. Marjorie moved to Algona in 2014, and became a resident of Homestead of Algona in 2017.

Marjorie was an active member of the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years as well as singing in the choir, and held many leadership positions in the church. Her volunteer work also included the Burt Band Mothers, Homemakers, Farm Bureau Women and the Idle Hour Club.

Never one to sit still, Marjorie spent many hours giving to others. Each child, grandchild and great grandchild received a handmade quilt upon marriage or birth. She wrote cards, letters and colored pictures for her friends and family. She was an avid reader, a faithful fan of the Minnesota Twins and Iowa Hawkeyes and was known as the jigsaw puzzle queen of Homestead. Most importantly she was a proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother whose greatest joy was attending their many activities.

Marjorie died at age 94 on Sunday May 5, 2024, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Art; brothers, James, Jack, Neil and Lee Eichhorn; and sisters, Beryl Soderberg and Nancy Lloyd; as well as daughter-in-law, Melanie Person.

Left to honor Marjorie’s memory are her children, Diane (Gary) Halter of Baxter, Marilyn (Jim) Gale of Algona, Dale (Dawn) Person of Jesup and Larry (Sandy) Person, of Algona; her grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings Mark (Darla) Eichhorn, Susan Shoup, Judy (Terry) Bresley, Sally (Eldon) Huber and Leslie (Vicki) Eichhorn; two sister-in-laws, LaVonne Wolf and Jeannette Eichhorn; and many nieces and nephews.
