A funeral service for Rita Schroeder, 91, of Lone Rock, was held Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 10:30 AM, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton. Burial followed in Fenton Township Cemetery in Lone Rock.
Rita Dorine Schroeder was born March 6, 1933, in Lone Rock, daughter of Ralph and Emma (Rath) Hurlburt. She grew up on a farm near Lone Rock and was baptized and confirmed at the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church. She attended school in Lone Rock graduating in 1950. Following graduation, she worked as receptionist and office nurse for five years at the doctor’s office in Fenton while her husband served two years in the Korean War.
Rita was married to Dale Schroeder on December 16, 1951, in the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church. They lived and farmed in the Lone Rock area all their married lives. In 1994, they retired from farming due to Dale’s failing health but continued to live on the family farm. Dale preceded her in death on March 9, 2003.
Rita was active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Legion Auxiliary, helping sew hundreds of quilts for veterans. Rita was always ready to make and bake things to give to family and friends. Her greatest joy was getting on that lawn mower and doing all the yards, gardening, and canning until all the jars were full.
Rita D. Schroeder died Friday, November 15, 2024, at Accura Healthcare Center in Bancroft at the age of 91.
She is survived by two children, Susan (Dave) Backer of Memphis, TN, and Michael Schroeder of Lone Rock; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Junior Hurlburt of Bancroft, a sister, Rachel Nilsen of Monroe, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Meredith Fairbanks; a brother, Merwyn (Donna) Hurlburt, and a sister-in-law, Elnora Hurlburt.
