Beryl Soderberg

A funeral service for Beryl Soderberg, 91 of Algona, was held Friday, April 14, 2023, at 10:30 AM at First Lutheran Church in Algona.  Burial was in Greenwood Township Cemetery in Bancroft.  

Beryl L. (Eichhorn) Soderberg, daughter of Earl and Bertha (Davis) Eichhorn was born on December 10, 1931, on a farm near Thompson, Iowa. They then moved to the family farm south of Elmore, MN, where she grew up. She was the third child of twelve. Beryl attended country school and graduated from Elmore High School.

Beryl married Gerald Soderberg on May 28, 1950, in Elmore, MN, and were married for 64 years. They farmed Hay Valley Farm southwest of Bancroft and had dairy cattle until 1986, and continued farming until 2005.

Beryl enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed making puzzles, reading, baking bread and pies. Her Swedish Tea Rings and monster cookies were famous. Beryl was a 4-H leader and Band Mother. She was a longtime member of the Idle Hour Club and DAR. She was very active in her church at Immanuel Lutheran in Bancroft and then First Lutheran in Algona.

Beryl died on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona after a brief illness. She was 91.

She is survived by five children, Marcia (Dennis) Elliott of Canon City, CO, Cindy (Steve) Roland of North Liberty, Pam (Kent) Madison of Lone Rock, Chuck (Dawn) Soderberg of Ankeny, and Steve (Marcia) Soderberg of Broomfield, CO; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five sisters, Marjorie Person, Nancy Lloyd, Judy (Terry) Bresley, Susan Shoup, and Sally (Eldon) Huber; three brothers, Mark (Darla) Eichhorn, Neil Eichhorn, and Leslie (Vicki) Eichhorn; a brother-in-law, Philip (Roberta) Soderberg; and many nieces and nephews.

Beryl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gerald on October 27, 2014; and three brothers, Lee, John (Jack), and James Eichhorn.
