Donald Allen Monson, 82, of Swea City, IA passed away peacefully at the Accura Health Care Center in Bancroft, IA. on Monday, March 20, 2023. A celebration of life for Don will be held at a later date.

Don was born to Marvin and Elsie (Larsen) Monson on September 12, 1940, in Moline, IL. He was a graduate of Moline High School in 1958 where he met the love of his life, Sandra Carlson. Don and Sandy were united in marriage on September 30, 1961, and were married for 62 years. From this union, they were blessed with 5 children, Melissa, Peggy, Diane, Steve, and Jenny.

Don worked for John Deere and Company for 25 years between Moline, IL, and Horicon, WI. After leaving John Deere, Don took a job at Giddings & Lewis in Fond du Lac, WI. In 1978, Don started his next big adventure when he picked up his family and moved to Loveland, CO. While living in Colorado, Don changed career paths and became a real estate agent. The family lived in Colorado until 1989 before moving to Des Moines, IA. Don worked at DICO as a steel salesman until accepting a position at Armstrong Rim & Wheel (Moveero Inc.) in Armstrong, IA. Don retired from Armstrong Rim & Wheel as Vice President of Purchasing.

Don enjoyed fishing, golfing, hiking, bird watching, reading, and spending free time at the family cottage in Door County, WI.  He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Iowa Hawkeye fan.  Don’s greatest love was for the Lord and spending time with his family.   His wife and children remember him best for his ability to listen, give advice when asked, and share his faith in the Lord.  His family considered him to be the “rock” of their lives as he was always there to coach, mentor, and comfort them.

Left to cherish his memory, are his wife, Sandra, and children Melissa Hayes (Dann), Peggy Monson, Diane Bowers (Steve), Steve Monson (Wendy), and Jenny Monson; brother-in-law, Maynard Carlson (Sue); sister-in-law, Teresa Monson. He had 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a drawer full of circus peanuts, starlight peppermints, and DG sugar cookies.

He was proceeded in death by his loving parents and his brothers, Robert, and Kenneth.

Condolences can be sent to his wife, Sandy at 304 Hwy P30 S, Swea City, IA 50590. Online condolences may be left at www.oakcrestfuneralservices.com
