Per Gordy’s wishes, there will be no services.   There will be a private burial in the Fenton Township Cemetery in Lone Rock, IA.  

Gordon Lloyd Hutchinson, 86, of Greenfield was born on March 1, 1938 in Kossuth County Iowa, son of Lloyd & Emma Hutchinson.  Gordon died at his home on May 25, 2024 at the age of 86.

Gordy grew up in rural Kossuth County and spent his youth helping out on the family farm.  He graduated from St. John’s High School in Bancroft, IA in 1956, where he was a standout on the baseball diamond.  After high school, Gordy was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1956, then traded to the Chicago Cubs and later traded to the San Francisco Giants. 

He was united in marriage to Lila Schmidt on Sept. 20, 1958 and they had 3 children, Tony, Lynn & Julie.  Gordy & Lila lived in Bancroft, IA, before moving to Estherville, IA, where he worked at Bagan’s Clothing Store, while attending Estherville Junior College, graduating in 1966.  He then went on to South Dakota State where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Agriculture.

He and the family then moved to Oakland, IA where he began his cattle buying career.  He was later transferred to Greenfield, IA before moving to Great Bend, KS.  In 2003, Gordy retired from his cattle buying career and he and Lila moved back to Greenfield. 

Gordy loved to play golf and also enjoyed hunting and fishing,

He is survived by his wife, Lila Hutchinson of Greenfield, 3 children, Tony (Carol) Hutchinson of Greenfield, Lynn Hutchinson of Wichita, KS and Julie (Brent) Allred of Wichita, KS, 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren (soon to be 13), 7 brothers & 2 sisters, Bobby of Lone Rock, IA, Donnie of West Des Moines, IA, Eugene of Queens Creek, AZ, Roger of Troy, MO, Duane of Garner, IA, Dennis of Cedar Falls, IA and 2 sisters, Judy of Woodbridge, VA, Kay of Jefferson, GA., and James of Fruit Heights, UT.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marjorie and brother Kenny.
