Funeral service for Janice Mae Geerdes was held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Swea City, Iowa on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 with Pastor Sara Heutinck officiating.  At Rest was held at the Harrison Township Cemetery, Swea City, Iowa.

Janice Mae (Jacobs) Geerdes, age 85, of Swea City, IA died Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Logan County Hospital in Oakley, KS.

Janice was the daughter of Clarence Isaiah and Nancy Louise (Baker) Jacobs, born on May 11, 1939, in Emmetsburg, IA where she lived with her parents and older brother Jerry until the family moved to Armstrong, IA where she attended school.

Janice was united in marriage with Marlin Richard Geerdes on October 19, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Janice and Marlin engaged in farming southwest of Swea City for many years before moving into town. Janice was also employed outside of the home as a nurse’s aide at the Bancroft Nursing Home and later as a cook at Exceptional Opportunities in Burt.

Janice was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Swea City. She later became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City where she enjoyed taking care of the altar flowers.

Janice had a green thumb and always had a house full of thriving plants. She loved dogs, especially her chihuahua Sam and her miniature poodle Nikki. She liked knitting, enjoyed traveling, and was enthusiastic about collecting family genealogy and corresponding with distant relatives. Janice loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Joy (Larry) Osborn of Swea City, daughter Peggy (Harold) Redmon of Colby, KS, daughter Laura (Leonard Laue) Jenkins of Armstrong, and sons Wilbur (Cindy) Geerdes, Michael Geerdes, and Glendon (Sheila Gronbach) Geerdes all of Swea City, as well as 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. 

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerry, her son Kevin Isaiah in 1967, and her husband Marlin in 1999.
