Rick Hesvik, age 70, of Fairmont, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2024, in the presence of loved ones at Goldfinch Memory Care.  A private family service will be held in celebration of Rick’s life at a later date.

Richard Allan Hesvik was born in Estherville, Iowa on October 13, 1953 to Richard and Elsie (Pulver) Hesvik.  Rick was the second born in the family of four and had three sisters, Debbie, Connie and Bonnie.  He attended school in Swea City, Iowa and was a member of the Class of 1971.  He was married briefly in his early twenties to Lois Verbrugge.

Growing up Rick had an interest in working on go karts, motor bikes and vehicles which led to his lifelong career as an auto mechanic.  Included in his work places were Bob Boland Ford, Troy’s Auto Clinic and D & D Transmission in addition to being a self-employed mechanic.  Rick was a well-known top mechanic in the area and had the knowledge to fix anything.  Shortly after completing treatments for throat cancer in 2013, he was no longer able to continue his work due to weakness and memory issues.  Rick entered Godfinch Memory Care in June of 2021 after receiving a diagnosis of dementia.

Rick’s interests included playing cards, reading, collecting Snap-On memorabilia and working on Sudoku, search-a-word and jigsaw puzzles.

Rick is survived by his mother Elsie Olson of Fairmont, formerly of Blue Earth; sisters Debbie (Craig) Smith of Excelsior Springs, MO; Connie (Paul) Stevens of Armstrong, IA; Bonnie (Bruce) Ankeny of Blue Earth, MN; 7 nieces and nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews.

Rick is preceded in death by his father Richard Hesvik; grandparents Barney and Isibel Hesvik; Lynn and Alice Pulver.

In lieu of flowers, donation in Rick’s memory may be made out to Goldfinch Memory Care in Fairmont, MN, Moments Hospice in Mankato, MN or Brain Support Network, PO Box 7264, Menlo Park CA 94026.
