Laura Marlene Truslow, 61, passed away at Regions Hospital in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on Wednesday, March 13th.

She was born to Olive Elaine Karns and Boyd Powell on September 14th, 1962, in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from Hoover High School in 1980 and went on to move to Armstrong, Iowa, where she raised 3 children and ingrained herself in the community. She volunteered as an EMT for over a decade for the Armstrong Ambulance Services where she was able to fulfill her desire of helping those in need.  In 2014, at the age of 51, Laura obtained her nursing degree from Iowa Lakes Community College.  In 2017, Laura moved to the Twin Cities to be closer to her children and anticipated grandchildren.

Known for her selflessness and passion for serving others, she will be dearly missed by all who crossed her path. Laura, or “Mama bear” or “Jamma” as she is better known to her kids and grandkids, devoted her life to not only caring for her family but other families through her career as a nurse. She spent the last decade of her life working in hospice care, memory care and assisted living, and loved building relationships with her clients and their families.  Above all, she adored her family, animals, Diet Pepsi, and reality TV. Her family asks that she be remembered for everything she did for others not the sorrow of her passing.

She is survived by her 3 kids, Emily Post (Alan Post), Bryant Truslow (Arqueas Hill-Truslow) and Griffin Truslow (Alexis Truslow), her five grandchildren, Anissa, Riley, Willa, Cameron, and Kira, her sister, Michele Burke (Daniel Burke), and her beloved Yorkie, Chloe.

A ceremony will be held at Edina Morningside Community Church on Saturday, March 23 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers and memorial gifts, please make a donation to the Martin County Humane Society.
