North Union freshman Max Heinen will take part in the high school high jump competition at the 2026 Drake Relays this week. With his leap of 6 feet, 4 inches at the Bishop Garrigan Relays on Monday, April 13, Heinen earned his spot at the Drake Relays. While the Garrigan Relays were halted due to weather that night, Heinen’s jump tied him for 20th in the state with seven other athletes who have cleared 6-4, according to GoBound.
Ajak Mulual, a sophomore from Waukee, leads the state with a season-best leap of 6 feet, 9 inches.
The high school high jump competition is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
